Traffic domain

A traffic domain is a name valued mainly for the visitors it already receives, from people typing it directly, old links or search, rather than only for its potential as a brand.

Traffic domain, explained

The classic traffic domain is a generic .com that people type into the address bar because they expect it to exist. Investors earned from such names with pay-per-click parking and often priced them partly as a multiple of annual parking revenue, on top of their value as a brand. Expired names can also carry traffic from backlinks left by an old website.

Verify before you pay for traffic. Ask for parking or analytics reports covering several months, look for bot patterns and sudden spikes, and check whether the visits come from a misspelling of a famous brand, which is a legal liability rather than an asset. Browsers that send typed words to a search engine, and AI assistants that answer questions directly, give people fewer reasons to type a domain, so treat traffic as a bonus that may decline and value the name mainly on what an end user would pay for it.

Example. The seller of the traffic domain shared twelve months of parking statistics, and the buyer checked them for bot patterns before making an offer.
